1986 Wild Card: Chiefs @ Jets

In their first postseason game since 1971, the Kansas City Chiefs faced the New York Jets in the Meadowlands. The Chiefs, relying on strong defense and special teams, struggled offensively throughout the game. The Jets, despite losing key defensive players to injuries, managed to build a significant lead with Pat Ryan stepping in as quarterback. Ryan, replacing Ken O'Brien, made crucial plays including a significant 24-yard run on a fourth down, setting up a touchdown by Freeman McNeil. The Jets' defense, led by Kevin McArthur's interception return for a touchdown, held the Chiefs at bay. In the second half, the Chiefs' special teams blocked a punt for a touchdown, but it was not enough to overcome the Jets' lead. The game ended with the New York Jets defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 35-15, advancing to face the Cleveland Browns in the next playoff round.
