Ted Ligety's Giant Slalom Crash | In Pursuit of Speed
The course is groomed, gates are reset, and it's the final day of races at Beaver Creek, which means it's the giant slalom. Ted Ligety conducts a final course inspection with head coach Sasha Eirik before heading into the start house. Often called Mr. GS, he's the favorite to win, having won the last five giant slaloms held here at Birds of Prey and now looking to add a sixth victory. Mirek positions himself just above Red Tail Jump and waits for Ligety to make his approach. However, disaster strikes during this unpredictable sport. Ligety was skiing aggressively and cleanly, which contributed to his speed, but unfortunately, he went out, with his boot likely getting caught in the snow, causing him to hit the outside ski. Despite his strengths, pushing the limits led to an unfortunate crash.
