Roberto Bautista Agut Sheds Light on Journey Back from Injury | 2024 Wimbledon Third Round

Congratulations on the win and thanks for spending time with us. You left the match yesterday down two sets to one but up 5-4 in the fourth. How did you approach that situation? I had a similar experience here at a third round where I was two sets up and on a break, but I eventually won in the fifth set. I didn't think much about it; I just talked to my coach about areas to improve and let things happen as they would. There was a lot of emotion when you won the match today. People know you've been through a lot in the last five years. What was that emotion about? I had a really bad injury last year where I fractured a bone in my leg and was out for a long time. There was a lot of work behind my recovery, and I felt today was the day I deserved a big result. Do you want to briefly explain what happened with that injury? I fell from my horse while spending time at home, which was very unfortunate. You own seven horses, right? Or have you added more? I think I have 12 or 13 now because I had four newborns this year. It's growing. In addition to horses, you also have a child. How has becoming a father impacted your career? I wanted to feel the family connection after my father passed away. My wife and I decided to have a child, who will turn four in September, and my wife is currently pregnant. It's very nice. Before you had the family, you made the semi-finals here in 2019 and there was a bachelor party planned. Can you share that story? It was funny because I didn't know what a bachelor party meant in English. My friends were in Ibiza waiting for me to win or lose so they could join me. It ended up being one of the best moments of my career. You reached the semi-finals five years ago and now, at age 36, you're back into week two. You have more wins at Wimbledon than at Roland Garros. Why is grass such a nice surface for you? I had a good record at Roland Garros but was unhappy with the slow conditions in recent years. I enjoy playing at Wimbledon more, and my record has improved here. Congratulations on multiple fronts—being healthy, all the work you've put in, and the new baby on the way. Great stuff, hope to see you again soon. Thanks a lot.
