Face to Face with Mark McKenzie

Hello, I'm Mark McKenzie, originally from New York, raised in Delaware. We're opening the Philadelphia Union system, and now I'm part of this fantastic club. I like to call myself a modern-day center-back, enjoying possession-oriented football. I have some athletic gifts that help me compete with stronger, faster, and more athletic forwards. I like to get under their skin and impose myself as a dominant player. I love music, not just American music but international as well, so I think we'll be able to bounce different musical tastes off each other and have the locker room playing some really nice tunes. It was difficult during the pandemic. I was blessed not to get the virus, but I had teammates and family members who did. We couldn't play football; no restaurants or hanging out with friends. It was about looking after myself and my family. It was tough, but there's a bright side, and I'm looking forward to meeting everybody. This club likes to produce quality talent from the youth program or elsewhere, which drew me in. I know some players, especially on the backline and a big man up top, though I'm still working on pronouncing his name. Over time, it will come together. My goal is to begin playing, get into the group, fight for my spot, and help the club win the title this year. Champions League football is always a dream, so helping the team and placing ourselves in that group is a goal. I'm really happy to be here and thank you all for the support. I'm looking forward to meeting you once COVID passes and restrictions are lifted. I'm ready to give my all for this club.
