Heisman Trophy winner and former Quad Cities businessman Johnny Lujack died today. Lujack was a legendary athlete and a giant in his community as a car dealer. Lujack won the Heisman Trophy in 1947 playing for Notre Dame and was the longest-living oldest Heisman Trophy winner to date. He helped the Fighting Irish win three national championships in the 1940s. Lujack went on to play four years with the Chicago Bears, only to see his career cut short by an injury. He then spent a few years as a television commentator for the New York Giants football team. He eventually settled in the Quad Cities, where he built a local car dealership empire with his father-in-law, which he eventually sold to his son-in-law. His granddaughter confirmed his death, saying he recently entered hospice care. Johnny Lujack died in Florida; he was 98 years old.
