What did Lil Wayne say to her? | Jelena Ostapenko | Quarterfinal Press Conference | Wimbledon 2024
Good evening, welcome to the press conference for Jelena Ostapenko. Please raise your hand if you would like to ask a question.
Jelena, tough day today. Just give us your thoughts on the match.
Yeah, I mean probably not the best way to finish the tournament, but I think there are a few positive things I can take from this week. I played quite well in most of the matches, and today was a bit hard, maybe not my best day, but it happens to all athletes.
How would you compare your match in Birmingham last year to today and how you played?
I mean, it's a completely different match because it's the same surface but a much smaller tournament and just before Wimbledon. Everyone wants to win here, especially when you're in the quarterfinals, so everyone is really fighting.
You were able to plow your way through some of your previous opponents, and Barbora doesn't really let people do that. What made her so different from your previous opponents and so difficult for you to play your best game? What did she do that's so challenging?
I mean, she played pretty well today, but I think it's more about me not going for the shots as much as I had to. It was also a bit windy, and Court 1 is honestly a bit slower than the outside courts, so maybe it was in her favor as well.
You've had Lil Wayne posting you on his Instagram feed and everything, and there have been some invitations for the US Open. Has he messaged you privately at all, and what do you make of this new friendship?
Yeah, I mean it's really cool, of course. Every interview now I've been asked this. He has been messaging me as well, and he told me he's my huge fan, so that's really nice.
Hi Jelena, what positives would you take from the week? Because it's a big run for the first time in a few years to go to the finals. What would you say in terms of your level and what you take when you go into the next tournament?
I feel like I'm on the right path. Day by day, I'm getting better. Not every day you will feel great and feel like all of your shots are perfect. You just have to try and find your game when you're not feeling good. I can only take positive things from here and move on. There are still a lot of tournaments this year, another Grand Slam, and the Olympics. So yeah, just work hard and the result will be there.
Any further questions? Okay, thank you very much.
Thank you.
