Daily Diary #9 | Women's Mass Start | Planica 2023

It was a beautiful day in Planica, Slovenia, as the 2023 Nordic Ski World Championships reached their final weekend. A huge crowd supported the athletes in the women's 30-kilometer mass start classic race. Abba Anderson of Sweden, known for her distance racing prowess, took the lead early and maintained her dominance, especially on the climbs. Despite a challenging season recovering from COVID, Anderson was back in top form, securing a significant lead over her competitors. She won the race with a minute lead, capturing her second gold medal at these championships. The battle for the silver was intense, with Kirsty Calva from Norway taking it just ahead of Sweden's Frida Carlson, who earned the bronze. The event concluded with the men's 50-kilometer mass start race on Sunday.
