USC Legend and Heisman Trophy Winner Charles White Dies at 64 | CBS Sports HQ
Charles White, the Heisman-winning Hall of Fame tailback at USC, died of cancer on Wednesday in Newport Beach, California. A native of Los Angeles, White's achievements include being USC's all-time leading rusher with over 6,200 yards, winning a national championship in 1978, and taking home the Heisman Trophy in 1979. He also won the Walter Camp and Maxwell Awards and was a two-time Rose Bowl MVP. Drafted in 1980 by the Cleveland Browns, he later played for the LA Rams. After nine years in the NFL, he returned to USC as a running backs coach. Charles White was 64 years old.
