Stanford soccer star Andi Sullivan bounces back from an injury that almost ended her career
Stanford's Andi Sullivan is making a strong comeback after an ACL tear in the NCAA Tournament nearly ended her career. Last October, Sullivan was at the peak of her game, earning her first cap with the U.S. senior national team and playing in the second round of the NCAA tournament. During that game, a fluke play caused a serious injury, tearing her ACL. This injury put her career on pause and raised doubts about her future in soccer.
Sullivan, a two-time first-team All-American and Pac-12 Player of the Year, had been driven to be a top soccer player since age three. By her junior year in 2016, she was having her best season, contributing significantly on the field and even receiving a call-up to the national team. However, the ACL injury was a major setback, requiring a long and challenging rehabilitation process.
Determined to return, Sullivan underwent surgery and began intense rehabilitation. It took ten months of hard work to recover, and on September 17, 2017, she played her first full game since the injury, coincidentally against Santa Clara, the team involved in her injury. Her performance was impressive, showing no signs of her past injury.
Sullivan's resilience and determination have not only brought her back to the field but have made her stronger and more motivated. She aims to lead Stanford to a Pac-12 championship and a national championship, embracing the challenges and growth that came from her injury experience.

Sullivan Returns to the USWNT
Stanford University senior Andi Sullivan reflects on recovering from a serious ACL injury, which was her longest and most challenging. She focused on what she could do during recovery rather than what she couldn't, which helped her progress. Sullivan feels confident in her recovery and aims to prove her strengths to her teammates and staff. Despite feeling nervous, the team's supportive attitude eased her return, making her feel excited and accomplished as she rejoined them on the field.
